AVMA Pet Loss Support Site Listing
The AVMA provides this listing as a service to pet owners. Many veterinary colleges offer telephone support for individuals dealing with pet loss. If the page does not go directly to Pet Loss Support, scroll down the list to this headline.
Iowa State University Pet Loss Support Group
Students from the ISU veterinary medical program staff this hotline to provide a supportive listening ear for owners having trouble dealing with the loss of their pet. ------ As of January 2011, this phone hotline is temporarily not functioning due to lack of funding. They still have listings of other support resources on their website, however.
University of Illinois Pet Loss Group
Staffed by students and staff on the University of Illinois veterinary program, this website has contact information for the support hotline for owners who have recently lost a pet. Information is available on line regarding how to help specific family members deal with pet loss
Delta Society
The Delta Society provides service and therapy dogs to people across the United States. Their website also offers a pet loss support area for those who have recently lost a pet. A hotline is available for those who need someone to talk to, and they also provide links to public pet memorial pages and sites. Donations can be made to the Delta Society through their website also in the name of a lost pet
Iowa State University Companion Animal Fund
This fund supports animal medical research programs, equipment purchases, and facility upgrades at the Iowa State University Veterinary Medical Center, and allows pet and horse owners to make donations in memory of their animals, as well as in honor of veterinarians or other people who have helped with their pets
